Understanding Your Options

What Is This Service?

Day Supports Group (DSG) offers daytime activities with staff assistance shared among participants. The person practices skills that matter in daily life.

Who May Qualify?

Innovations members may request DSG when a group program can meet their needs. Other funding must be checked separately. Approval depends on the person’s needs, funding rules, and a suitable program.

What Could a Day Include?

Examples include practicing communication, making choices, learning daily routines, social activities, and community participation. Activities should match the person’s interests and approved goals.

What Staff Help Will Be Available?

Group support does not mean each person has their own worker. Ask about group size, staffing, and help with personal care. If group support is not enough, request an individual-support review.

Can We Use the Empowerment Center?

Ask about WNC Direct Care’s Asheville Empowerment Center, openings, transportation, and the program schedule. For students, coordinate with the school; day services do not replace the school’s responsibilities.

How Do We Get Started?

Call WNC Direct Care and the care manager—the person who helps arrange services. Describe the help needed on a typical day. Ask for an assessment, a written service decision, and help finding an available provider. Share the support plan and care information. Confirm the approved schedule before attendance.
